Xiamen

Xiamen is situated in the southeast of Fujian Province by the Taiwan Strait, one of the coastal cities from where Marco Polo set sail centuries ago. Xiamen is also known as Egret Island, as it has been an egret habitat since ancient times, thanks to its well-protected environment and congenial climate.

Nanputuo Temple
One of China's most attractive Buddhist temples, built during the Tang dynasty, and houses a large, laughing Buddha. 15 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Hulishan Old Fortress
Originally built as a coastal defense in 1823, the fortress has a number of impressive cannons, a secret tunnel, and a collection of swords. 20 minutes' drive from the Marco Polo Xiamen.

Xiamen University
The university campus boasts a picturesque setting along the shore. 15 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Wanshi Hill Botanical Garden
The botanical garden features more than 4000 species of tropical and subtropical plants and is close to Wanshi Lake. Ten minutes' drive from the Marco Polo Xiamen.

Gulang Island
A small, pretty island, often referred to as the "Garden on the Sea," without vehicular access and with a bathing beach. Ten minutes' drive from the hotel.
